Initial session- What to expect!

WELCOME! 

Before our first session we would have had a short discussion on your concerns and what we are looking forward to working on. Also a New Patient Form would have been completed! 

We will then schedule you in for an Initial Appointment which will be 45 minutes long. This gives adequate time for questions, observations and some screening or assessments to be completed. 

At your initial appointment we establish a baseline for intervention (therapy). We have two options:

1. An informal screener session (report is an additional cost) for a single or small area of concern, OR 
2. A Comprehensive formal assessment looking at all areas over 2 sessions (1.5hours in total). Which is a very detailed and thorough look into areas of concern.
   NOTE: If the informal screener identifies more than one area of concern or significant difficulties, a formalized assessment may be warranted or encouraged. 

Once our baseline data has established, we will have a short discussion and provide future intervention goals and feedback. 

If required, we schedule intervention (therapy) either at the clinic or location which suits all parties involved  

NOTE: If you have any reports that are recent and/or relevant could you please send a copy through for our records. This helps establish a holistic view of your child (this does include previous School reports, Speech Pathology Reports, OT reports, Paedatrician or medical reports).  

There are assessments for all areas of communication, with the most common being swallowing, language, speech/articulation, fluency, and voice. 

Please NOTE: Screeners do not come with a report. If it is required you must be discussed during the initial session. Please contact us for more details on types of assessments, screeners, questionnaires and reports!
